Jenny Wren Productions have teamed up with award-winning Stroud-based author and playwright Jamila Gavin (whose novel Coram Boy was adapted for the stage and produced to great acclaim at both the National Theatre and Bristol Old Vic) to present Love Lies Bleeding, a world premiere, which we will tour locally, finishing up with a run at the Everyman Theatre June 13-16.
Furthermore, we have recently been successful in our Arts Council England funding bid for this project, so we're very happy Wrens!

This play explores the personal, political, and domestic background to World War II as it affects two young girls just entering adulthood. It dramatises the issues and arguments that raged at the time; and the choices that had to be made where there was a conflict of interest. It is about friendship, betrayal, and divided loyalties.
Love Lies Bleeding begins in 1939 with the declaration of war and the impact that this has on the girls and the people around them. Having recently left school, the two girls, Gwen and Dodo, share a flat in London. As war breaks out, Gwen joins the WRAC, while star-struck Dodo is training to be an actress. Dodo, who soon finds herself entertaining the troops and factory workers, comes from a family of Nazi sympathisers and, as time goes on, finds herself being pulled in opposing directions: where should her loyalties lie? Matters come to a head after Dunkirk when she is forced not only to choose between the two men in her life but also to make up her mind which side she is on.
